Luminar is a decentralized, zero-knowledge identity registry on the Stellar network. It enables users to prove compliance credentials (such as being over 18 years old or matching country residency constraints) to DeFi applications without revealing sensitive personal identifiable information (PII).
No. Luminar is designed as a privacy-preserving infrastructure. We do not store your physical ID cards, names, or document details. The identity validation checks are processed in memory by the oracles to issue signatures, after which the PII is discarded. The blockchain registry only records cryptographic hashes (commitments and nullifiers) to verify compliance, leaving zero permanent data footprint.
Luminar generates ZK proofs directly in your browser using Aztec's Noir programming language. Your private details (like name, exact date of birth, or document number) never leave your device. Only the cryptographic proof of compliance is submitted to the blockchain.
Upon successful verification, Luminar mints a non-transferable Soulbound Token (LSBT) directly to your Stellar wallet. This token acts as a public compliance badge that on-chain DeFi apps can query to authorize your address.
Luminar uses Poseidon2-based nullifiers generated from your unique document secret and wallet address. If you try to register a second wallet using the same physical ID card, the contract detects the duplicate nullifier hash and rejects the transaction, preventing Sybil attacks.
Three independent, decentralized identity validation oracles review the format and authenticity of the credentials. At least 2 of the 3 oracles must sign the validation payload for the zero-knowledge circuit to allow proof generation, eliminating any single point of trust or failure.
